Maruti Suzuki will soon launch the all-new, 2018 Ertiga MPV in India. The second generation MPV will also have a butch new sibling with crossover styling. The crossover model of the new Maruti Ertiga is expected to be launched in India next year. Here is a speculative render that shows what it could look like.
As the render indicates, the crossover version of the new Ertiga is likely to get butch cladding on the sides and wheel arches. The front and rear bumpers will get inserts, again to make the MPV look like a crossover. The wheels are likely to be 16 inch units, with taller sidewalls for better ground clearance. Roof rails will finish off the crossover look. Apart from these changes, the crossover version of the MPV is likely to retain mechanicals and interiors of the regular model.
The new Ertiga gets a 1.5 litre K-Series petrol engine with 105 PS and 138 Nm, making it more powerful than the outgoing model. The 1.3 litre Fiat Multjet turbocharged diesel engine is also expected to be replaced by a newly developed 1.5 litre diesel motor from Suzuki. While the petrol engine gets 5 speed manual and 4 speed torque converter automatic gearbox options, details on what transmission the diesel engine will have aren’t available yet. The new MPV gets many new features, and shares its interior design with the Dzire.
The new Ertiga is now larger than the older model although the 7 seat layout has been retained as is. Due to the larger dimensions, the MPV is expected to offer a lot more space than before, increasing passenger comfort greatly. Maruti Suzuki is expected to start producing the new Ertiga within the next few weeks, following which the India-made MPV will be launched first in Indonesia. The Indian launch of the MPV is expected to happen during August-September. In terms of pricing, the new Ertiga is likely to have a slight premium over the older model. The crossover version will sit even higher in terms of pricing.
